Treasury Tuesday – Earth at Play

Today is the 3rd and last installment of treasuries celebrating Earth Day. And what better way to end the festivities than having a bit of a romp and play! This whimsical and boisterous collection was created by Amanda Marie at Calico City. I really enjoyed the composition of this curation. It is fun, quirky, imaginative, and shows off the giddy side of Earth. Plus, my hair flower clip, "Morning Bluebird" got to make a bunch of new, fun friends!

The Sunday Snag – Boudoir Bellini

peach pink vintage slip

You guessed it! Another peachy pink purchase! Ha! Geez, I promise I do have other colors in my closet. Weirdly enough, I really didn't have any peach colored items at all until the ones I've been clogging my blog with lately. But can you really blame me? They are just so soft and feminine. Plus, two of them have been underclothes, which makes sense for a soft neutral peach color.

I figured I would show you this snag today after luring you pretty provocatively with my Friday and Saturday posts of skin-showing vintage ladies and feathered fans. They were the perfect introduction to what I'm referring to as my little Boudoir Bellini.

This slip is delicious if I say so myself. I had wanted a vintage slip for months now. I dance in a lot of vintage dresses and just didn't have anything "era appropriate" to wear underneath. Also, many vintage clothing pieces don't move against the skin well and weren't meant to wear sans slip. So I was quite excited to find this 1940s rayon/silk blend, lace edged slip on Ebay at a price I could afford.

I must say, I feel like a pretty tasty little treat in this slip! It drips down the curve of the body and is the color of flushed skin. Knowing you have this on under a conservative vintage dress makes you feel quite confident and daring!

Friday Photo Swoon – Fan the Flame

1930s burlesque fan dancer photograph

Feeling a bit naughty? This provocative young lady knew how to keep 'em guessing with her use of lush ostrich feathers. The texture alone in this photograph is appealing. Satin shoes, downy feathers, silken chair duster, soft curls, and smooth skin all participate in such an elegant seduction. Even her eyes seem to maintain a poise while the slight smirk of her mouth suggests mischief.

Although I could not identify who this lovely lady was, the bobbed hair and fan would suggest that she is from the 1920s to 1930s. Large ostrich feather fans were popularized in that period.

Treasury Tuesday – Earth in Bloom

Yesterday was Earth Day and I hope you all celebrated in some small way (at least by going outside for a quick breath of fresh air before returning to the grind!).

Last week's treasury was the first of a three part tribute to the Earth and all her loveliness. Today, I'm sharing with you part two: Earth in Bloom. This lush, green treasury was created by Maria of Masha Crochet and she made an absolutely perfect ode to growth and life. Some of my fav's in the bunch are the bird's nest brooch, the scarves, and the paper pendants full of spring flowers. My little green button earrings, "Double Mint", also got to join the earthy party! What's your favorite item?

The Sunday Snag - Lounge About Town

antique apricot rayon pajama top with lace

This was an unusual purchase for me. I have never owned a vintage undergarment, slip, pj's, etc. (now I have two!). This was my first dive into that world of which I know very little about. I knew I wanted a slip (more on that in a future post), but I came across this lounge top and thought, "Yes, I will take that, please." I think it was the peachy color and the silky look. It seemed like a small luxury that I could A. afford and B. get out of sweats for. Ladies back in the day seemed pretty classy even in pj's and I wanted to give that a try.

I purchased this beautiful 1930's pajama top from The Slipperie (there are so many pieces I wanted from that little shop! Especially a few pairs of tap shorts/knickers...someday). It is made from rayon so it is slick and shiny and has square patterned lace around the neck and across the bust. There was some minor foxing (a term I didn't know until recently meaning small rust stains or oxidation), but I didn't mind. It is over 70 years old after all!

I actually might wear this as a top. It is loose and blousey and might work well tucked into high waist pants, jeans, and pencil skirts. A bit daring for the 1930s, but would be rather cute today!

Saturday Shop Talk – Daisy Jane

multi color gift set of necklace pendant charms with flower baskets

Personality: The Blooming Beauty
Places you'll find yourself: A bouquet in each arm given to you by kind strangers at the local market
sunny yellow necklace charm with flowers and gemstones

Aren't these darling?! I was so excited to find these little vintage buttons! They were all off of one garment (wouldn't that be fun!) and appear to be a type of early plastic (possibly lucite?). They each depict a basket of three daisy flowers each with a small gem center. I decided to make them into pendants because they just seemed destined to be near the heart of some lovely gals. Wouldn't these be the cutest gifts for a bridesmaid brunch or girl's day out?!

There are five different colors: Yellow, Orange, Ivory, Pale Green, and Blue (which was snatched up the very day I added it to the shop!). Which color do you like most?

Friday Photo Swoon – La Chaise

antique photo of young woman laying on a sofa in cotton gauzy nightgown with bows on arms

Lovely no? This lounging beauty is another find from pinterest with no credit (someday I'll find a photo or two that I know something about!). From the look of her delicate undergarment I would say this is late 1800s, but help me out if you see any tell tale sign of a specific time period. Wow, even as I type, I can't help but look up again and again at her. Those eyes. Her skin. What a dream.

Thursday Thrill – Spring Fling

1950's linen floral dress and men's vintage bow tie

It's official! ChatterBlossom has participated in a craft show for the very first time!

It was so much fun and I met a lot of really lovely people. Plus, my cutie came to support me and even wore a vintage bow tie to match the little apron I made him! Doesn't he look like a vintage soda shop clerk?! My hubs is adorable and I wanted to smoosh his face with kisses all day!

I brought over 400 items with me and about 350 actually made it onto the table. An 8 foot table gets small quite quickly! I'm a poor kid so I needed to use what I could find in my home for this craft show set up. I didn't want to spend a lot of money when I've never done one of these before and didn't know what to expect.

Instead, I used my tiffany blue silk curtains as table cloths (not ironed, I know...) and my bamboo like screen to hold all the hair clip flowers. I sewed on individual squares of fabric to the screen so that I could just clip on the flowers. Worked really well!

I didn't have a sign so I decided to use our laptop. I made a slideshow that had a photo of my banner and had it switch back and forth between that and photos of the flowers in my hair. I made signs and put them in frames I had already and sat them atop some old crates.

old wooden boards used for jewelry display showcase

I used my bathroom shelving for the pendants and bobby pins (for reals ya'll!). They are boards from old crates that I leaned up against glass milk bottles. Then I used split twine for the necklace chains.

Can I say, this may have been worth all the effort just so that I could have the chance to wear this dress for the first time. It is a printed linen wiggle dress from the 50s/60s with a green floral pattern. I bought it from The Cleveland Shop while they were in town for a dance event in November. It needed a few holes mended, the straps reinforced, the back slit raised a smidge, and the hips let out and I finally got all those alterations finished! I love this dress! It was perfect for a spring event and I paired it with an ivory hair flower with a vintage wooden button center, white button drop earrings, and my swan on wood double button ring. Add red lipstick and a cute chap on my arm and I was ready for the crowds!

To top it all off, I got to teach a swing dance lesson that night for a party celebrating the 75th birthday of the matriarch of their family! They had a 50's sock hop theme and the grandmother even wore a bright pink poodle skirt and pink cat eye glasses! How fun is that?!

Thank you to everyone for all your well wishes! The show went well and that was partly due to all of your encouragement!
